SALT Income Franchise- Tax Experienced Associate (Bay Area)
Baker Tilly is a leading advisory, tax, and assurance firm, and they are seeking a State & Local Tax (SALT) Associate for their SF Bay Area team. The role involves assisting clients with state and local income tax issues, ensuring compliance with state tax laws, and providing support in SALT compliance quality control reviews and tax audit disputes.

Responsibilities
Assist middle market and Fortune 500 clients with evaluating and resolving state and local income tax issues, and ensuring compliance with applicable state tax laws
Assist with SALT compliance quality control reviews and perform research on relevant state tax law
Assist clients with state and local tax audit disputes
Draft technical memoranda regarding state and local tax issues
Interact and manage multiple clients in a deadline-oriented environment while maintaining exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
Maintain internal relationships with colleagues, other service lines and engagement/project teams
Develop and retain technical tax expertise
Proactively identify and communicate issues as they arise
Maintain a positive and “team player” attitude
Become familiar with and adhere to the firm’s policies and procedures
Learn and grow from direct on the job coaching and mentoring along with participating in firm wide learning and development programs
Utilize your entrepreneurial skills to network and build strong relationships internally and externally with clients

Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in accounting, math, finance, business, economics, or a related field of study
Minimum of one (1) year of experience with a law firm or public accounting firm, or analogous industry or public sector / tax agency experience focused on SALT income tax matters
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated skills in the areas of legal research and writing, time management, communication, interpersonal skills, relationship building, collaboration, and problem solving
Strong leadership, project management, organizational and analytical skills
Ability to travel, as needed
Preferred
Master's Degree in Taxation, or JD / LL.M
CPA, bar membership or equivalent credential
Previous experience performing tax research and providing technical advice on state and local tax issues
Experience in serving mid-market clients
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
