Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist to join our dedicated team, responsible for collecting blood samples and assisting in laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures to collect blood specimens from patients
Ensure accurate patient identification and specimen labeling
Label and handle blood samples according to established protocols
Prepare specimens for laboratory testing, including centrifugation and aliquoting
Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the phlebotomy and laboratory areas
Monitor and maintain phlebotomy supplies and equipment
Assist with data entry and updating patient records in the laboratory information system
Provide excellent customer service to patients, addressing any concerns or questions they may have
Follow infection control and safety procedures to protect patients and staff
Comply with organizational policies and procedures, including those on customer satisfaction and service excellence
Demonstrate professionalism and cultural sensitivity in all interactions
Communicate effectively with team members and other departments
Participate in departmental training and continuing education activities
Adhere to safety and infection control practices
Actively participate in the Patient Safety Program and report any safety concerns or incidents

Required

Previous experience as a Laboratory Assistant and/or Phlebotomist is preferred
Proficient in venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques
Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and procedures
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Ability to follow HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality
High School Diploma or equivalent
Completion of a formal phlebotomy training program
Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) is required
Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
LA County Fire Card certification at the time of hire or within the first 30 days of employment
Must successfully complete and maintain any additional certifications required by state or local regulations

Preferred

Bilingual skills are a plus
Associate's Degree in a related field is preferred
