The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County is offering a professional learning experience in the Office of Strategy for undergraduate or graduate students. The intern will gain practical work experience in areas such as data analytics, business intelligence, and grant writing while contributing to departmental goals and assisting in various analytical tasks.

Responsibilities

Develops process maps and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for NTD reports, Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) coordination, Formula Funding allocation, Grant Writing, and other responsibilities

Develops tracking tool for METRO’s federally funded sponsored projects within the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP)

Develops visualizations (dashboards/reports) and performs spatial analysis using tools like Tableau and ArcGIS

Automates data processing and reporting as applicable

Assists in preparation and development of discretionary grant applications

Contributes to departmental goals and objectives

Suggests solutions to business issues and challenges

Attends and participates in meetings

Assists in functional and/or business analytics

Gathers and scrubs data for analysis and reports

Assists with client consulting and support

Assists with writing grants, procedures guide, presentations, training materials, etc

Contributes to a collaborative atmosphere

Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers

Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP)

Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents

Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required

Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program or a recent graduate (within 1 year)

Degree program relative to intern assignments, such as Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence, Public Policy, Public Administration, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related degree

Currently enrolled in an accredited education institution and have successfully completed 24 credit hours

GPA of 2.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale

Knowledge relative to intern assignments, such as Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Public Policy, Public Administration, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related degree

Knowledge of PC's and related software; MS Office
