State & Local Tax Manager- Revenue Royalty
Baker Tilly is a leading advisory, tax and assurance firm, and they are seeking a State & Local Tax Manager with a consulting focus to join their growing SALT practice. The role involves providing strategic compliance and consulting services to middle market and Fortune 500 clients, managing multi-state reviews, and supporting the growth and development of team members.

Responsibilities
Be a trusted advisor to middle market and Fortune 500 clients by providing strategic compliance and consulting services that lower their compliance cost and audit risk, ensure they are in compliance with applicable regulations and provide value across the spectrum of state, federal, and Indian royalties and production taxes. This includes:
Manage multi-functional and multi-state reviews that analyze contract terms, revenue recognition practices, well production data, and ownership information to identify optimal filing options, exemptions, deductions, and available credits and incentives that can reduce the client's compliance burden
Research state and federal regulations to determine proper reporting treatment of client’s specific valuation chain to minimize compliance cost and ensure proper valuation and reporting to regulatory authorities
Counsel clients on sovereign royalty and production tax controversies, including research, drafting client correspondence, prepare ruling requests and provide guidance in defending against audits
Plan and execute projects requiring a wide scope of expertise, including monthly filings and in-depth compliance reviews
Prepare technical memoranda on state, federal, or tribal royalty issues for upstream companies
Maintain active communication with clients and make recommendations for business and process improvements, manage expectations and enhance value
Manage a group of staff and seniors on compliance engagements to ensure developmental skills assist with managing client engagement staffing, billings/collections, and ensure client profitability targets are met
Utilize your entrepreneurial skills to network and build strong relationships internally and externally with clients and the community
Invest in your professional development individually and through participation in firm wide learning and development programs
Support the growth and development of team members through the Baker Tilly Care and Teach philosophy, helping associates meet their professional goals
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or other related field required
Five (5) + year(s) experience in upstream oil and gas accounting including state, federal, and/or tribal royalty
Ability to lead and supervise others, provide exceptional client service, demonstrate commitment to continuous learning in order to stay current regarding applicable strategies, see the 'big picture' as well as the details, display appropriate ethical knowledge and commitment, and exhibit a sense of urgency and commitment to quality and the timely completion of projects
Eligibility to work in the U.S., without sponsorship
Preferred
Masters or advanced degree preferred
Professional certification such as COPAS APA, CPA, CMI or JD/ LLM preferred
Revenue accounting knowledge preferred
2+ year(s) of leadership experience, mentoring and counseling associates desired
Located near one of our Baker Tilly offices highly preferred- Houston, Dallas or Denver
For California, Colorado, New York and Washington: The compensation range for this role is $100,340 to $190,240. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location
