Law Student Externship – Public Defender’s Office

The Wyoming State Public Defender’s Office is seeking law student externs with a passion for public service, criminal defense, and constitutional rights. This externship provides hands-on legal experience working alongside dedicated public defenders as they represent indigent clients in all phases of criminal proceedings.

Responsibilities

Conduct legal research and draft motions, briefs, and other filings under the supervision of a licensed attorney
Observe and assist in client interviews, court hearings, and trial preparation
Assist attorneys in reviewing discovery, developing case strategy, and preparing for courtroom proceedings
Participate in team discussions about case theory and constitutional issues

Required

Must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school and have completed at least one year of legal coursework by the time of the externship
