District Lab Engineering Technician
The North Dakota Department of Transportation is looking for dedicated and skilled professionals to join their team. The District Lab Engineering Technician will play a vital role in performing laboratory and field testing related to transportation materials, ensuring quality assurance and compliance with specifications.

Responsibilities
Perform Independent Assurance Laboratory and field testing
Prepare clear and accurate testing results and maintain proper records
Evaluate sampling and testing procedures and equipment checks
Maintain frequent contact with the Materials Coordinator regarding equipment, requirements, specifications, certifications, testing results, etc
Verify the specific gravities of each aggregate component from samples supplied by the Contractor
Run sieve analysis of each aggregate component and compare results with Contractor results
Determine if all gradation and physical property tests meet the required tolerances
Conduct Rice and bulk specific gravity tests to calculate air void content
Determine optimum asphalt content of the mixture and determine if it meets the required tolerances
Ensure personnel located in Quality Control and Quality Assurance (QC/QA) testing laboratories are fully qualified and capable of conducting the appropriate sampling and testing procedures
Achieve and maintain Examiner material testing certification
Administer exams and qualify testing personnel as required in the FS & TM and maintain proper records
Perform milestone and miscellaneous coring of roadways within the district boundaries
Show new employees testing procedures, frequency of tests, forms and reporting and filing test results
Calibration and Maintenance of all testing and engineering equipment
Issue and check on the proper care and use of field laboratory and survey equipment
Monitor equipment records indicate all repairs and calibration dates for all testing equipment
Maintain equipment inventory and calibration records
Assure all other laboratory equipment that is used on location is calibrated properly
Perform inspection of field labs
Qualification
Required
At least six years of work experience in construction inspection, surveying, or material testing for Engineering Technician IV
At least four years of work experience in construction inspection, surveying, or materials testing for Engineering Technician III
At least two years of work experience in construction inspection, surveying, or materials testing for Engineering Technician II
College-level coursework and/or a degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Geology, or a related field may be substituted for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis, provided the coursework directly supports materials testing, soils, aggregates, bituminous materials, concrete, or construction inspection
Ability to work in all types of weather on a variety of uneven or slippery surfaces
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and carry several items with a total weight of 50 pounds
Valid North Dakota Class D driver's license in order to travel to project locations
Passionate about construction and engineering
Strong organizational and communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
Preferred
Materials testing is preferred
