Embedded Software Engineer

R.C. Systems is a trusted leader in the design and manufacturing of gas detectors and critical alarm controllers for industrial environments. As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and validate firmware for safety-critical products, collaborating with hardware engineers and product owners to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Responsibilities

Translate high-level product concepts into robust, maintainable firmware architectures
Capture and document requirements and rationale for regulated safety-critical products
Collaborate with hardware engineers on hardware/firmware integration and diagnostic strategies
Partner with Product Owners and stakeholders to maintain alignment throughout the development lifecycle
Champion development processes, lead technical reviews, and deliver high-quality, standards-compliant code
Ensure firmware is well-documented, thoroughly tested, and version-controlled
Perform unit testing using debuggers, emulators, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers
Develop work breakdowns and task estimates to support project planning
Support multiple development programs simultaneously
Identify risks early and implement firmware-level mitigation strategies

Required

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or a related field
Proficiency in C

Preferred

2+ years of experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)
Proficiency in C++
Experience in regulated industries (industrial safety, medical, automotive, etc.)
Knowledge of embedded system design and asynchronous programming
Experience with ARM Cortex-M architectures
Hands-on use of debugging tools (JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers)
Familiarity with communication protocols (UART, I2C, SPI)
Experience with DevOps tools (e.g., Git)
Experience delivering firmware across the full product lifecycle
Exposure to FMEAs and risk mitigation in firmware
Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Self-motivated, with a passion for process improvement and engineering excellence
