The Northern District of Alabama is hiring three attorneys for permanent Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) positions in our Criminal Division. The AUSA will be responsible for the prosecution of federal crimes and will coordinate with federal law enforcement agencies on various criminal investigations.

Responsibilities

The Northern District of Alabama is currently seeking three attorneys for Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) openings in our Criminal Division, at our main office in Birmingham, Alabama and our branch office in Huntsville, Alabama
Our Criminal Division investigates and prosecutes federal cases arising from a wide array of criminal activity
The AUSA will be part of a dedicated team helping to enforce Federal criminal laws
Assistant United States Attorneys in the Criminal Division are responsible for the prosecution of all types of crimes under federal law
This position is a general criminal litigation position with responsibility for coordinating with federal law enforcement agencies on federal criminal investigations and handling a heavy caseload involving a wide variety of federal criminal offenses involving mostly violent crime, child exploitation, firearms, narcotics, immigration, and white-collar crime
This incumbent for this position is someone who is routinely preparing and trying a high volume of cases, while exercising a degree of professional autonomy and responsibility
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress

Required

Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree
be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction)
have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience
United States citizenship is required
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof
