Joby Aviation is working towards certifying their electric air taxi aircraft and is looking for a Composite Materials & Process Intern to support the materials qualification effort. The intern will take ownership of tasks related to the development, certification, and production of eVTOL aircraft while working in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Responsibilities

Fabricate composite laminate and bonded panels following detailed instructions
Use various calibrated dimensional inspection tools (calipers, scales, micrometers, etc.)
Interpret and work to ASTM, SACMA, and MIL-SPEC standards for material characterization and development tests
Learn to operate electromechanical test frames, test fixturing, thermal test chambers, environmental conditioning chambers, and relevant software
Measure and record specimen dimension data using dimensional inspection equipment before testing
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace
Follow all Joby safety procedures, including OSHA regulations

Required

High School diploma or equivalent (an Associates degree or equivalent trade certification in composites is a plus)
Attention to detail and critical thinking skills
Interest in engineering and eVTOLs
Strong math skills and knowledge of engineering documentation and drawings
Ability to operate inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, height-gauges, microscopes, scales)
Problem-solving mindset with a willingness to learn and collaborate
Ability to lift over 50 lbs. unassisted and stand at a workstation for extended periods (over 4 hours), excluding meals and breaks
Proficiency in MS Office Suite and general computer skills
