Assistant Grocery Manager

Tom Thumb Supermarket is seeking an Assistant Grocery Manager to support store operations and enhance customer service. Responsibilities

Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a focus on providing fast and friendly customer service
Assist customers by offering product suggestions to enhance their shopping experience
Engage in suggestive selling through telephone interaction, in‑store intercom announcements, and one‑on‑one conversations
Answer and respond to incoming calls appropriately; resolve customer complaints and escalate to the Store Director as needed
Serve as the leader responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director (see Store Director job description)
Assist with planning daily operations and monitoring production processes according to company procedures and profitability goals
Maintain knowledge of all duties performed by department employees, including opening/closing, dairy, and frozen operations
Monitor employee productivity and provide guidance as needed
Schedule employees to ensure appropriate coverage and high service levels (may be assigned as needed)
Build grocery displays; rotate products; remove outdated or spoiled items; maintain cleanliness across the work area and department
Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays to support sales initiatives
Ensure merchandise is correctly priced, properly displayed, and shelves are well‑maintained and clean
Uphold and enforce department standards and requirements
Ensure proper code‑dating procedures for all products within the department
Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to department staff
Train employees in store policies, sales approaches, and record‑keeping procedures
Maintain working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook
Prepare sales and inventory reports; participate in physical inventory every six months
Control inventory to maintain adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness
Stock and rotate products in alignment with division directives
Assist with ordering grocery products and maintaining proper inventory levels
Supervise reclamation processing and ensure orderly, in‑stock conditions in the back room and all grocery areas
Manage shrink and cost effectively
Implement correct product preparation techniques
Operate related equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines
Perform receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting product quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product
Adhere to temperature control, storage guidelines, and proper packaging techniques
Ensure safety, cleanliness, and sanitation in work areas, coolers, equipment, and display spaces
Comply with workplace safety rules and regulations
Follow emergency procedures during equipment or software malfunctions
Complete, maintain, and monitor daily log sheets, sales and labor documentation, and other required paperwork
Maintain accurate department records and administrative reports
Operate computer software and electronic ordering devices for product ordering
Comply with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, company policies, and code‑dating standards
Attend and participate in sales meetings as needed; communicate department performance, sales goals, and opportunities to employees
Uphold company grooming standards and dress code requirements
Perform all duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity
Carry out any other necessary or assigned responsibilities
