Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive in-house legal services to the organization
Work closely with Vera's Chief Legal Officer and staff
Receive on-the-job training in nonprofit compliance, negotiation of agreements, lobbying law and regulation, and employment law
Assist with researching legal and regulatory questions confronting national projects
Provide strategic advice and counsel to projects, particularly those focused on expanding access to quality education for incarcerated individuals
Qualification
Required
Recent graduates of accredited U.S. law schools
Strong interest in the operations of nonprofit organizations
Broad-based curiosity about potentially unfamiliar legal matters
Commitment to practicing in the field of nonprofit law
Scholarship and leadership qualities
Preferred
Interest in the substantive areas in which Vera works (including criminal justice, juvenile justice, and immigration)
Interest in non-profit tax issues, employment law, and policy
