Responsibilities

Works directly with students in small groups and individually to implement instructional programs, plans and activities for students who are disruptive to the educational environment
Teaches social skills for replacement behaviors that contribute to disruptive, challenging behaviors
Monitor student behaviors as they return to the classroom through follow up with the referring teachers and to provide feedback and suggestions for successful functioning in school/classroom
Participates in training of school staff on the development of Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavioral Intervention Plans
Provides support to school staff on Cooperative Discipline Techniques
Implements Second Step in the DMR. Keeps daily records and logs for students in the DMR. Completes daily data tracking and uses the data for decision making for students referred to the DMR. Assists students with development of reentry plans following the DMR referral
Uses intervention techniques to help the student de-escalate, including non-violent crisis intervention (CPI)
Assists in the re-establishment of relations between the students and referring teacher, mediating, and resolving issues or difficulties to create a cohesive learning environment in which every student participates and feels comfortable
Participation in on-going staff development
Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower

Required

High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required
Two (2) years experience required
Considerable patience and ability to work with students with challenging behaviors
Willingness to learn and implement instructional methods, strategies, and techniques to assist students
Ability to exercise patience, courtesy, tact and good judgment in dealing with challenging students
Ability to establish effective and cooperative working relations with professional and support staff
Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment
Two (2) additional years successful experience required for Career Ladder Requirements
Achievement of Registered Behavior Technician Certification or Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification required for Career Ladder Requirements
Two (2) years continuous successful experience in the position at the Lower Grade level for Eligibility for Consideration for Advancement
Mastery of all responsibilities and duties of the position for Eligibility for Consideration for Advancement
Achievement of identified goals as they relate to the needs of the district and as established by the supervisor for Eligibility for Consideration for Advancement
Consistent maintenance of an effective and orderly work environment for Eligibility for Consideration for Advancement
Consistent compliance with general office procedures such as standards contained in the AACPS Employee Handbook for Eligibility for Consideration for Advancement
Above Satisfactory overall job performance for the two most recent consecutive years of Performance Ratings for Eligibility for Consideration for Advancement
Letter of Recommendation written by the supervisor for Eligibility for Consideration for Advancement

Preferred

Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred)
Hold or be eligible for Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification issued by AACPS/Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) preferred
Hold or be eligible for Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Certification issued by Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc preferred
