Associate Chief Data Officer
Montana State University (MSU) is undergoing significant transformation in its data usage, and they are seeking an Associate Chief Data Officer to lead data governance, analytics, and reporting strategies. The Associate CDO will oversee the design and implementation of a data governance framework and manage the Institutional Data Warehouse, ensuring effective data access and analysis across the university.

Responsibilities
Provide oversight and technical guidance for the development of reports, analytics deliverables, and business intelligence tools through Edify and other reporting
Lead and implement Data Governance at MSU Bozeman, in tandem with MSU Enterprise, UIT, MUS, and Edify governance policy and frameworks
Oversee the institutional reporting requirements (e.g. IPEDS, CDS, FVT/GE, Montana University System)
Conceptualize and develop new reports and deliverables
Lead the Analytics team, facilitate professional development, and mature the analytic capabilities of members of the staff
Identify opportunities for and work to implement automation and efficiencies of scale in the reporting functions of the office
Assess and analyze data requests to identify and execute large-scale institutional analysis and research projects, advanced statistical quantitative analysis, and recommendations to support and enhance business processes
In consultation with the consultation partnering team, determine data sources, help frame or refine related research questions, curate, and analyze data to facilitate data-informed responses to campus constituencies
Remain abreast of technical and industry trends to develop innovative methods for conveying information and enhancing data access and usage across the University
Represent UDA on assigned campus committees and meetings
Serve as the acting Chief Data Officer in their absence
Qualification
Required
Master's degree in the social sciences, data science, mathematics/statistics, higher education, or a related field
Five or more years of work experience in institutional research, analytics, or related functions
Experience managing regulatory reporting (e.g. IPEDS, FVT/GE)
Experience with SQL and relational databases
Advanced knowledge of business intelligence tools (such as Tableau) and scripting languages (such as R or Python)
Experience operating in an Ellucian Banner ERP environment
Demonstrated quantitative reasoning skills
Advanced knowledge of research design
Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis methods
Preferred
Terminal degree (Ph.D. preferred) in social sciences, data science, mathematics/statistics, higher education, or a related field
Progressively responsible experience working in a higher education setting, with a demonstrated understanding of how an institution of higher learning operates
Progressively responsible project management experience
Knowledge of data warehousing platforms and practices
