Responsibilities
Define and own the retail application architecture for store solutions, with emphasis on POS, payments, promotions, discounts, and store operations workflows
Design integration patterns between POS and surrounding systems (ecommerce, OMS, inventory, CRM/loyalty, pricing, reporting/analytics)
Translate business and store operations requirements into high level and detailed solution architectures, data flows, and interface specifications
Create and maintain current state and target state architecture, roadmaps, and transition plans for store technology
Provide architectural guidance and oversight to project teams during design, build, testing, and rollout phases
Ensure solutions meet nonfunctional needs including performance, scalability, availability, security, PCI compliance, and supportability
Review and approve solution designs, technical specifications, and change requests related to POS and retail store systems
Contribute to standards, reference architectures, and best practices for retail and store systems
Provide thought leadership on retail technology trends (cloud POS, mobile POS, self-checkout, unified commerce) and recommend adoption where relevant
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
12+ years of experience in solution/enterprise architecture or senior technical roles within retail
Strong hands-on experience with POS solutions (e.g., Burgeon, Oracle/MICROS, NCR, Toshiba, GK, Lightspeed, custom POS) including configuration and integration
Solid understanding of store operations sales transactions, returns/exchanges, promotions, discounts, cash management, inventory adjustments, end of day processes
Experience integrating POS with key upstream and downstream systems (OMS, ERP, inventory, loyalty/CRM, pricing, payments, reporting)
Knowledge of APIs, integration patterns (REST, SOAP, messaging, ETL), and event driven architectures
Familiarity with payment processing, tokenization, and compliance requirements (e.g., PCI DSS)
Proven ability to produce architecture diagrams, sequence diagrams, and technical documentation for diverse audiences
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills; ability to bridge business, product, and engineering teams
Preferred
Having worked with international teams is a plus
