Field Service Engineer- O&R

Transportation Partners & Logistics is seeking a Field Service Engineer to serve as a critical link between field operations and engineering. The role involves diagnosing complex system failures, conducting in-depth field investigations, and translating field insights into actionable design and process improvements.

Responsibilities

Serve as a technical liaison between Field Service Technicians, Field Leadership, and Engineering by providing clear, accurate, and consistent communication on engineering projects and field findings
Maintain current knowledge of field repair practices, tooling, procedures, and emerging turbine platform requirements
Partner with Field Services and Engineering teams in the research, development, and validation of new tooling, equipment, and repair procedures
Conduct detailed field investigations and root cause analyses, documenting measurements, photographs, and observations to support continuous improvement and future design initiatives
Contribute to the development of work instructions, tooling concepts, and recommendations for future tooling and repair strategies
Assist in the design and development of custom tooling, fixtures, and equipment for both field and shop applications
Support drafters and engineers by assisting with 3D modeling and design using CAD and modeling software
Utilize precision measurement tools, including Keyence 3D scanning and probing equipment, to capture accurate dimensional data for engineering and fabrication
Support Specialty Services Managers with assigned technical projects, field trials, and engineering initiatives
Assist with material selection, sourcing, and procurement activities related to engineering and tooling projects

Required

Bachelor's degree in mechanical or industrial engineering (or related engineering field) preferred but not required
Experience or willing to learn failure analysis, reverse engineering, or applied R&D
Experience in metal fabrication
Experience or willing to learn the use of diagnostic tools, data acquisition systems, and 3D modeling or CAD software
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in field environments
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings
Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and technical reporting
Willingness to travel and work in various environments (indoors/outdoors, elevated areas, confined spaces). Ability to work outdoors in variable conditions and travel as required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to travel as required
Exposure to varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind
Work may involve heights, confined spaces, and mechanical equipment
Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50 pounds
Prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, crouching, and climbing during onsite inspections
Ability to climb vertical ladders and work at heights of at least 300 feet
Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment
Travel up to 60%

Prior mechanical experience preferred
