Assistant Public Works Director - City Engineer
The City of Campbell is recruiting for their next Assistant Director of Public Works - City Engineer. This role involves planning and managing the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department, and may act in the Public Works Director's capacity in their absence, overseeing various public works projects and ensuring effective communication and collaboration within the team and with external stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, assigns, manages and evaluates the activities of the Engineering Division
Manages division personnel, consultant and contract resources
Participates with other department managers to develop, plan, implement and report the department's goals
Leads, directs, monitors and evaluates division staff and provides for their training and professional development
Clarifies roles and responsibilities of division staff in meeting Engineering Division goals and facilitates goal setting, scheduling and monitoring of Public Works projects
Promotes communication within the division, department, other city departments and outside agencies
Participates in the development, planning, financing, design, administration and construction of significant and complex Public Works projects
Sets priorities for allocation of division resources on the basis of department and city policies, direction from the Public Works Director, City Manager and City Council, relative need and cost effectiveness
Consults with contractors, engineers and public officials on Public Works projects issues
Prepares and administers the division's budget
Prepares and/or directs preparation of analyses, reports and correspondence
Advises citizen groups
May serve as the Public Works staff advisor to the Planning Commission
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
Five years professional civil engineering experience, three of which must have been in a management position
Knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering
Knowledge of principles and practices of public sector management including personnel and budget management
Knowledge of principles and practices of training and supervision
Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State and local regulatory codes and ordinances
Knowledge of applications of microcomputers for civil construction engineering
Knowledge of recent developments and current literature regarding civil engineering, planning and roadway and public facilities design
Ability to effectively manage complex projects, programs and activities
Ability to perform complex civil engineering studies, analysis and design; plan, organize, assign, direct and evaluate the work of assigned staff
Ability to direct and monitor the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of Public Works facilities
Ability to supervise and train professional and technical subordinates
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city staff, developers, engineers, contractors and the general public
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Possession of a valid California Driver's License or the ability to provide alternate transportation as approved by the appointing authority
Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California
Preferred
Master's Degree in Public Administration or Civil Engineering

Health Insurance: Effective January 1, 2024, the monthly Cafeteria Plan Allowance will be based on selected level of coverage, as follows: Employee Only Coverage: $986.84; Employee Plus One Coverage: $1,973.68, Employee Plus Family: $2,565.78 to use towards a CalPERS medical plan or cash out opt: $750/month.
Vision/Dental Insurance: The City pays the monthly premium for employees and their eligible dependents through VSP and Delta Dental.
Deferred Compensation: City contributes $0 per pay period Mission Square Retirement 457 Plan available
VEBA Plan (Voluntary Employee Benefit Association): City contributes $86.16 per pay period
Flexible Spending Account (FSA): City contributes $30.76 per pay period until last pay period of June 2023, $55.76 per pay period (effective first pay period of July 2023)
Vacation: Accruals are based on length of service. Employees can earn 11-21 days of vacation based on years of service.
Sick: Accrued at an unlimited rate of 3.69 hours of sick leave per pay period.
Life Insurance: $50,000 + $50,000 AD&D Life Rate is .27 cents per $1,000: AD&D rate is .04 cents per $1,000
Long Term Disability Insurance: The plan provides for 2/3 of monthly base salary up to a salary maximum of $4,000 per month. The maximum benefit is $6,000 per month. Elimination Period is the first 30 days of each disability. City pays entire premium.
Holiday: Receive 10 paid holidays and 5 days of floating holiday.
Tuition Reimbursement: up to $3,000 per fiscal year
