Senior Electronics Hardware Engineer

II-VI Aerospace & Defense is seeking an Electrical Hardware Engineer in their Horseheads, NY facility to augment their engineering team's efforts in designing, developing, and integrating innovative optical systems. The role involves planning, designing, and executing electronics hardware development, particularly in precision analog and high-speed digital design activities in support of the High Power Fiber Laser Group.

Responsibilities

The candidate is responsible to plan, design, supervise, coordinate, direct and execute electronics hardware development involving precision analog and high speed digital design activities in support of the High Power Fiber Laser Group
We expect the candidate to bring strong design background in mixed-signal circuit design. The chosen individual will design board level opto-electronic circuits addressing high speed OE conversion as well as low noise signal detection and analog control loops
Basic RF design understanding is very beneficial. Otherwise, must be willing and able to learn the basics from our team
Coherent is looking for highly motivated individual who is a self-starter with dedication to teamwork

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics, or suitable professional experience with a BS degree
Master's degree or alternatively a Bachelor's with 7+ years of relevant experience in mixed signal circuit design, bring-up and debugging
Strong design background in mixed-signal circuit design
Proficient in suitable software tools such as SPICE, ADS, and Matlab
Conversant with schematic entry and layout support
Skilled in the design of optical receivers and transmitters for medium to high speed applications
Experience in low noise optical receiver design and analog to digital conversion (with FPGA and/or microcontroller interface)
Ability to work highly independently with relatively little guidance from supervisor on specific tasks
Excels in a cross-organizational, cross cultural, global team environment
Able to support a flexible work schedule due to collaboration with multiple worldwide facilities
Hands-on design experience in all aspects of product development with expertise in electronics
Strong adaptability, customer focus, and innovation capabilities
Effective planning, organizing, and problem-solving skills
Commitment to continuous improvement, professional and technical knowledge development
Ability to generate positive teamwork and relationships, while being results-oriented and maintaining high work standards and quality

Preferred

Basic RF design understanding
Signal integrity understanding or modelling experience
Familiarity with Simulink
