Water/Wastewater Technical Lead
AQRA International is focused on providing engineering services for water and wastewater facilities. The Water/Wastewater Technical Lead will be responsible for the planning and design of various water and wastewater systems, managing projects from conceptual design to construction, and providing technical guidance to junior engineers.
Responsibilities
Execute multiple simultaneous projects from conceptual design, through final design, and submittal reviews during construction
Manage budgets and schedules on assigned projects and/or being performed by direct reports
Manage critical path schedules for projects including obtaining required design information from external agencies such as private utility companies, public information requests, and regulatory agencies
Prepare conceptual designs to assist clients in defining project scope including but not limited to site layouts, preliminary cost estimating, schedule formation, agency review identification, and manhour estimates to establish fee needed to complete the work
Independently create layouts, detailed designs, plans, specifications and estimates for pipelines, pump stations, treatment plants, tanks and other water and wastewater storage and conveyance systems
Engineering/process design, project coordination, determining and writing engineering specifications, planning work, establish appropriate design methods, report preparation and coordination, equipment sizing and selection and working directly with the owner
Calculate and prepare engineering documents for respective engineering discipline, including details, schedules and cost estimates for projects, performing life cycle cost analyses, performing hydraulic analysis calculations and developing hydraulic profiles, and coordinating with CADD technicians for construction plan production
The selection and application of engineering systems and materials in accordance with the latest governing codes applicable to the project type will be required
Lead equipment and supplier selection
Work with subconsultants and other outside entities to obtain necessary design information and keep project on schedule including but not limited to preparing subconsultant scope of work, coordinating with subconsultants to prepare contracts and fees, managing subconsultants during design, and problem solving and communicating with subconsultants as issues arise
Specific tasks may include working with:
Surveyors for obtaining and evaluation of topographic and boundary surveys, title searches, preparation of plats, easements, and other survey documents
Geotechnical Engineers for geotechnical analysis studies, paving design, and utility design
Environmental Engineers for endangered species, phase I evaluations, archeological studies, waters of the US identification, aquifer recharge zones, and other environmental studies
Other Consulting Firms working on adjacent or related projects for data transfer, scheduling coordination, and points of connection
Identify, coordinate with, and submit designs to all applicable agencies for review. This individual should have a demonstrated familiarity with reading, interpreting, and negotiating with various regulatory agencies such as Cities, Counties, TXDOT, Fire Marshalls, USACE, FEMA, and TCEQ to achieve design goals and complete projects within contracted schedules
Oversee and make sure Firm’s protocols for quality control and documentation are being followed
Carries out design procedures independently; schedules meetings and communicates clearly with the Design Manager, Project Manager, and Construction Manager
Bring one or more potential solutions to problems/issues for all meetings with manager including pros/cons identified for each potential solution
Solve unique engineering problems on projects utilizing natural student discernment and problem-solving skills. Thrives on performing and solving problems with minimal supervision
Fully knowledgeable of company standards, plans and specifications; capable of interpreting project plans; and ability to guide other technical and non-technical staff
May prepare and sign routine, non-technical correspondence in own, Design Manager, or Project Manager’s name; schedules tentative appointments without prior clearance; makes arrangement for meetings and assembles meeting materials; collects information for routine inquiries or periodic reports; refers non-routine requests to Design Manager or Project Manager
Proficiency and demonstrated familiarity of construction material submittal reviews in order to provide technical guidance to others completing such tasks during the construction phase of projects
Demonstrated familiarity with various common project conditions, problems encountered in assignments, and proper procedures for rectification
Qualification
Required
B.S. in Civil Engineering
Professional Engineer License in the State of Texas or ability to obtain Texas license within 6 months of hire
7+ years of progressive experience in civil engineering focused on water and wastewater treatment facilities
Detail oriented with tendency to adhere to established procedures
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, interact, and complete duties on schedule
Must be organized and able to work with minimal supervision
Practiced in task management including follow-up and follow-through
Ability to articulate technical skills and ideas both visually and contextually
Practiced in technical writing and communication skills
The candidate should be a self-starter and results-oriented
