Handbag Hardware CAD & Prototyping Specialist
The Sample Room is a handbag design and development studio seeking a creative, technically skilled team member to support hardware design and development. The role involves CAD modeling of handbag components, hands-on 3D printing and finishing, and providing laser cutting support while thriving in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
Receive and review hardware specifications, identify missing details, and provide estimated completion dates
Create clear, production ready spec sheets for completed models (drawings, dimensions, notes)
Model handbag hardware components to spec using Rhino
Design additional features as needed for application and functional requirements
Communicate clearly and early when issues or delays arise
Create and repair print-ready meshes
Select print materials and orientation based on requirements; place supports for SLA printing
Batch, print, wash, and cure components
Remove supports; sand, finish, and paint prototypes as required
Apply hardware to panels, bags, and SLGs for fit and appearance checks per company standards
Test functionality and make edits quickly; comfortable with multiple iterations per day
Balance aesthetic goals with functional demands and manufacturability
Organize and archive unused samples; create duplicates for the business portfolio as needed
Track and inventory consumables as used or weekly
Maintain clean workstations and tool organization
Monitor machine and tool health; flag issues early
Assist with machine troubleshooting as needed
Develop tools, patterns, jigs, and fixtures for sample makers using available fabrication methods (3D printing, laser cutting, and woodshop tools)
Support business initiatives during downtime; propose improved organizational tools and workflows
Research 3D printing materials/technologies and propose new material applications
Qualification
Required
Strong Rhino CAD modeling skills (clean, organized, design-driven modeling; revision speed matters)
Hands-on SLA 3D printing workflow (orientation/supports, post-processing)
Comfort working in a workshop environment: finishing, tool use, cleanliness/organization
Clear communication, reliable follow-through, and ability to own tasks end-to-end
Preferred
Experience with handbag hardware, small parts, or fashion/accessory product development
Laser cutting experience (setup, material handling, fast iteration)
Familiarity with mesh prep/repair and exporting for print
