Responsibilities
Investigates, evaluates, assesses damage, negotiates, conducts dispositions and settlements of auto liability claims
Analyzes coverage, determines legal liability, compensability, and extent of damages
Ensures claim processing is consistent with applicable policies, procedures, and departmental guidelines
Completes Bodily Injury and Property Damage Evaluation Forms; makes recommendations for the disposition of claims above the individual settlement authority
Contacts insureds, claimants, attorneys, body shops, and medical staff to determine injuries stemming from accidents while determining and establish reserve requirements
Documents computer logs with the results of the claim review and handling of the claim; records and updates status notes; documents contacts’ results, relevant medical reports, and duration information based off the industry’s best practices
Plans and conducts investigations, including interviewing parties involved, taking witness statements, collecting, and evaluating documentation, securing evidence, and protecting the chain-of- custody, determining inspection needs, ordering police reports and the scene investigation, reviewing material damage photos, ordering medical reports, and other related activities
Compiles information for discussion and decision-making with the claims committee, when appropriate
Evaluates medical injury exposure consistent with guidelines; researches and reviews appropriate statutes and case law for relevance to claim issue; and makes appropriate and timely payments
Maintains accurate records and manages administrative responsibilities associated with processing and the payment of claims
Determines the need for independent adjusters, cause and origin experts, independent medical examiners, economists, accident re-constructionists, and engineers
Responds timely and appropriately to all settlement demands
Keeps internal and external customers advised of file status and other matters, as required. Evaluates claims for potential fraud and work with Special Investigations Unit
Determines if the need for subrogation exists; takes the necessary steps to initiate recovery efforts
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalency is required
At least one year of bodily injury claims handling
A minimum of 3-5 years personal auto claims adjusting experience with a strong focus on complex bodily injury claims is required
Must currently hold or have the ability to secure and maintain adjuster license(s) within 60 days of employment
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
Effective decision-making skills; makes decisions in an informed, confident, and timely manner
Ability to build and sustain constructive working relationships despite differing perspectives
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to negotiate skillfully in difficult situations with both internal and external groups and/or vendors
Understanding of applicable statutes, regulations, and case law
Advanced investigative skills and strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to anticipate, recognize, identify, and develop solutions to problems in a timely manner
Easily adapts to new and/or changing situations, requirements, and/or priorities
Cultivates an environment of teamwork and collaboration
Computer competence in Microsoft (Office, Excel, Word, etc.)
Ability to work with little supervision and direction
Strong written and verbal communication skills; promotes and facilitates free and open communication; must have good presentation skills
