Responsibilities
Architect and implement the robot's power sub-system end-to-end: rechargeable batteries, DC/DC conversion, protection, and distribution
Own several power‑focused PCBs from concept through production, including schematics, layout, component choices, vendor collaboration, bring‑up, validation, and failure analysis
Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, and systems engineers to integrate batteries, BMS, chargers, and distribution hardware into the overall product
Optimise for EMI/EMC behaviour, resilience to inductive kick and current spikes, and thermal performance in dense, space‑constrained designs
Iterate quickly on hardware based on bench measurements and real‑world testing, working independently and making pragmatic trade‑offs
Qualification
Required
Significant experience designing and building Li‑ion battery packs for shipped products such as consumer devices, light EVs, or robots
Strong background in low‑voltage power architecture: creating robust distribution networks that tolerate real‑world abuse and electrical transients
Track record designing high‑efficiency AC–DC charging hardware and selecting appropriate converter topologies for different use cases
Hands‑on PCB design for power stages and distribution (protection devices, high/low‑side switching, current sensing, grounding and layout practices)
Experience with fuel‑gauging, protection, and cell‑balancing for Li‑ion packs, plus familiarity with regulatory and safety certifications (e.g. UL, CE) and EMI/EMC testing
Comfort bringing up boards in the lab, debugging at the bench, and, ideally, writing simple test firmware where needed
History of taking hardware from prototype to volume production, working with contract manufacturers and designing for test and manufacturability
