Responsibilities

Inspect construction activities during all project phases across Western Virginia near Roanoke, Martinsville and Danville and recognize and report noncompliance related to erosion & sediment control (ESC) and storm water management (SWM)
Provide guidance during inspections while fostering a partnering relationship with contractors and stakeholders
Work independently in the field and interpret applicable regulatory requirements when communicating observations
Perform daily record keeping of project activities related to environmental compliance
Monitor and perform environmental inspections to verify regulatory compliance
Report identified noncompliance observations from ESC and SWM inspections
Provide technical guidance during site visits related to ESC measures, SWM BMPs, SWPPP, Spill Containment Plans, C-107 process, VSMP, ESCCC, and MS4 program
Interpret and apply state and federal environmental laws, regulations, policies, and best practices during inspection activities

Required

At least 2 years working with state and federal environmental regulations and related programs
Virginia DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector Certification
Virginia DEQ Storm Water Management Inspector Certification
High school graduate
Construction methods, specifications, standards, symbols, and terminology
Reading and interpretation of ESC and SWM plans and contract specifications
State and federal environmental laws, regulations, policies, and best practices
Written and oral communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and Internet
Work independently in the field
Operate safely in outside environmental conditions and hazards at construction sites
Walk over rough and uneven terrain and stand up to 12 hours on occasion
Bend, stoop, kneel, twist, grasp, reach, raise hands above head, sit, climb, and balance
Travel overnight as needed
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Background screening will be performed
Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
