Service Forester
The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is dedicated to promoting and improving agriculture and forests in North Carolina. The Service Forester provides professional oversight in forest management, collects and analyzes forest data, and offers technical advice to landowners while responding to emergencies such as wildland fires.

Responsibilities
Collecting and analyzing forest data to provide technical advice to landowners
Writing management plans for non-industrial private forest landowners
Interacts with consulting foresters, as well as other professional state and local government land managers for forestry related technical assistance
Conducting environmental compliance inspections for regulations related to forestry activities
Responds in times of emergency such as wildland fires and natural disasters
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in forestry from a Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredited institution; or registered by the North Carolina Board of Registration for Foresters; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge of the principles and practices of forest management
Knowledge of collecting and analyzing forestry data
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats
Ability to be self-motivated, a team player, and able to remain calm under stress
Those not registered at the time of hire must obtain registration as a Forester from the NC Board of Registration for Foresters within two years of employment
