Associate, Business Development
Coriell Institute for Medical Research is seeking a commercially focused Business Development Associate to support opportunity creation and early client acquisition within defined target markets. The role involves identifying potential commercial partners, initiating outreach, and qualifying opportunities that contribute directly to pipeline and revenue growth.

Responsibilities
Identify, research, and prioritize prospective commercial clients using tools such as ZoomInfo, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, and Zoho CRM
Initiate outbound engagement through structured email, LinkedIn outreach, targeted lists, and event follow-up
Serve as the initial point of contact for inbound inquiries generated through the website and industry events
Qualify opportunities based on scientific relevance, business need, and readiness before advancing to the Business Development Manager
Actively manage prospect, lead, and opportunity records in Zoho CRM, ensuring accurate data entry, timely updates, clear status progression, and visibility into pipeline activity
Develop and refine externally facing messaging, follow-up sequences, and client communications to improve engagement and response rates
Execute outreach efforts in alignment with defined commercial priorities, adapting messaging based on observed audience response and performance outcomes
Support targeted outbound initiatives using Mailchimp and curated contact lists
Leverage AI tools, including ChatGPT, to support research, personalization, and communication refinement
Track outreach performance and apply insights to improve conversion rates, meeting outcomes, and overall effectiveness
Maintain Zoho CRM as the system of record for all commercial activity
Ensure leads, contacts, and opportunities are consistently tracked from initial engagement through qualification and handoff
Maintain CRM data integrity by enforcing consistent usage, documenting activity and outcomes, and supporting reliable pipeline visibility and reporting for management review
Support forecasting inputs and performance analysis through disciplined CRM usage
Prepare account summaries, briefing materials, and opportunity overviews that articulate relevance, differentiation, and potential value to prospective partners
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure website content clearly communicates Coriell’s offerings and supports inbound interest, using C1 CMS as needed
Represent Coriell at conferences, webinars, and networking events to increase visibility and support relationship development
Provide feedback and insights from prospect interactions to inform future messaging, positioning, and targeting efforts
Contribute ideas to improve market focus, outreach efficiency, and overall commercial performance
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree required in Business, Communications, Life Sciences, or a related field
2–4 years of experience in sales development, business development, or growth-oriented commercial roles
Demonstrated success in outbound prospecting and early-stage opportunity development
Strong working knowledge of CRM-based pipeline management
Computer Skills within Microsoft/Google Applications required
Strong written and verbal communication skills with confidence initiating professional client conversations
Ability to perform in a performance-driven, results-oriented environment
Proactive commercial mindset with persistence and initiative
Strong audience-focused communication and value articulation skills
Ability to position offerings to emphasize relevance, differentiation, and business impact
Strong command of CRM-based pipeline management with attention to data accuracy and process discipline
Data-aware and outcome-driven, using performance insights to refine approach and execution
Organized, adaptable, and collaborative across functions
Ability to operate effectively in evolving commercial structures and transition responsibilities as specialized functions mature
Professional judgment, accountability, and consistent follow-through
Preferred
Experience supporting structured outreach and demand-shaping initiatives in a B2B environment
Strong working knowledge of Zoho CRM
Familiarity with ZoomInfo, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Mailchimp, and related outreach tools
Website Upkeep (C1 CMS) highly preferred
