Senior Nuclear Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer
Ecotal is seeking a Senior Nuclear Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to lead the design, integration, and validation of neutron detection and radiation monitoring systems for advanced nuclear reactors. This role involves making high-impact technical decisions, ensuring compliance with nuclear safety standards, and mentoring engineering teams.
Responsibilities
Lead design, selection, and integration of neutron detectors and signal processing electronics
Develop and validate radiation monitoring systems (area, process, stack, and coolant monitors)
Design I&C architectures and interfaces with digital controllers, PLCs, and distributed I/O systems
Perform system modeling, failure analysis, and safety classification per nuclear standards
Lead testing, calibration, and qualification activities for safety-critical instrumentation
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and mentor junior engineers
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field
8–12+ years of experience in nuclear I&C, reactor protection, or radiation monitoring systems
Hands-on experience with neutron detectors, signal processing electronics, and radiation monitors
Strong knowledge of nuclear standards (IEEE, ANSI/ANS) and safety analyses (SIL, FMEA)
Leadership skills to drive projects, mentor teams, and make high-consequence design decisions
Preferred
Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Nuclear Engineering or related field
Experience with research, HTGR, or sodium-cooled reactor designs
Familiarity with digital I&C platforms, PLCs, and data acquisition systems
Experience with regulatory documentation, licensing, and safety basis preparation
