Engineering Aide (Extra Help)
The City of Napa's Utilities Department is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Engineering Aide (Extra Help) to join the Utilities team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with professional engineers and assist with various field and office tasks related to civil engineering and utilities systems.

Responsibilities
Collecting, filing, coding, indexing, updating and retrieving reference materials such as maps, drawings and survey reports for use by professional engineers
Drawing street profiles and cross sections, plots contours and station distances as required
Redrawing maps to new scale, depicting boundaries, locations of structures such as streets, storm drains and pertinent related information
Performing mathematical calculations necessary to determine grade, lot, lines and areas
Preparing blueprints and copies of plans and maps as requested
May serve as a member on a survey party
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Possession of a valid Class “C” California Driver's License at the time of appointment
Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying
Knowledge of office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment
Knowledge of symbols and terminology used in public works, engineering and drafting
Knowledge of functions, characteristics and the proper use and care of engineering, drafting equipment
Knowledge of geometry, trigonometry and engineering math
Skills in basic engineering drafting utilizing contemporary tools and techniques
Skills in engineering math
Skills in geometry
Ability to apply training and education to accomplish projects and/or enhance processes
Ability to work independently
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and directions
Ability to work in noisy environments and work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
Ability to perform manual labor associated with tasks which may include lifting and working with the full range of body movements including bending, stooping, grasping and walking on uneven ground, lift and carry up to 25 pounds; walk and stand up to 6 to 8 hours a day
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff, elected officials and the public
Preferred
Knowledge of engineering, drafting, geometry and/or trigonometry preferred
