Payroll Specialist

The Payroll Specialist will manage employee compensation, serve as the primary contact for payroll inquiries, and ensure compliance with payroll regulations while supporting payroll operations.

Construction

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding payroll questions via phone, email, or in-person
Collect and verify timekeeping data for all employees across divisions
Calculate wages according to hours worked, including leaves, overtime, and bonuses
Enter payroll data into payroll systems accurately and maintain organized payroll records
Calculate and process taxes, deductions, and garnishments (e.g., child support, court orders)
Issue pay statements, mail paper checks, and distribute W-2s and other payroll documentation
Maintain complete employee personnel files, including I-9s and related compliance records
Ensure payroll processes comply with applicable federal, state, and Canadian regulations
Monitor and apply multi-state payroll rules, shift differentials, travel pay, incentives, and bonuses
Support payroll reporting and audits as required, including providing information to HR and Finance
Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, escalating non-routine issues to the Payroll Manager
Assist the Payroll Manager in daily payroll operations and special projects
Support continuous process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy
Collaborate with HR, Finance, and division managers to ensure accurate and timely payroll administration

Required

High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience in payroll, data entry, or accounting processes, with strong attention to detail and confidentiality
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Subject to additional screenings which include but are not limited to background checks, drug testing, or driving record check, if applicable

Preferred

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field
Familiarity with multi-state payroll regulations, Canadian payroll, and industry-specific payroll practices
