Senior Firearms Engineer
Shadow Systems is seeking a high-energy Senior Firearms Engineer who thrives on tackling tough challenges. In this role, you'll design a variety of firearm solutions and lead engineering problem-solving initiatives while collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive project success and innovation.
Responsibilities
Design and develop a wide range of firearm solutions—from iterative part revisions to entirely new firearms—pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the industry
Identify, analyze, and resolve mechanical and manufacturing challenges efficiently, even under demanding deadlines
Lead engineering problem-solving initiatives from initial concept through to full-scale production, ensuring solutions align with Shadow Systems’ quality standards
Collaborate proactively with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and leadership, as well as external partners, to drive project success and innovation
Utilize advanced CAD software and rapid prototyping techniques, including 3D printing, to iterate and validate designs quickly and get prototypes into testing as fast as possible
Take full ownership of assigned engineering projects, driving progress independently and ensuring timely completion without the need for close supervision or heavy structure
Continuously seek and implement smarter, faster, and more efficient engineering and manufacturing solutions, leveraging deep knowledge of firearm operating systems and market trends
Break down complex problems quickly and efficiently, prioritizing action and hands-on solutions over months of analysis
Embrace opportunities to take on advanced projects and responsibilities not typically offered to engineers, regardless of prior experience level, if talent and drive are demonstrated
Qualification
Required
Minimum of 4 to 5 years of hands-on professional experience in firearms engineering preferred, with a demonstrated ability to identify and resolve complex mechanical and manufacturing challenges under tight deadlines. Exceptionally talented but less experienced candidates may also be considered for significant project responsibilities
Previous experience in an engineering role at a firearms manufacturer or a closely related company, contributing to cross-functional teams and driving project success from concept through production
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a comparable technical discipline, ensuring a strong foundation in engineering principles and the ability to integrate proven methods with advanced manufacturing techniques
Expert-level proficiency in CAD software and rapid prototyping technologies such as 3D printing, enabling quick iteration and validation of firearm designs
Proven track record of meeting aggressive deadlines and delivering results in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
Exceptional problem-solving abilities, characterized by a proactive approach to seeking out and resolving engineering issues before they impact production or quality. Ability to pick apart problems quickly and take decisive action without unnecessary analysis
Comprehensive knowledge of rifle and pistol operating systems, as well as awareness of current market trends in firearms design and manufacturing
Comfortable working with minimal guidance and structure, managing projects independently while also collaborating with internal and external manufacturing resources to accelerate prototyping and production
Collaborative team player with outstanding communication and leadership instincts, able to work independently and take full ownership of projects while driving innovation and efficiency across teams
