Engineer-in-Charge (Civil Engineer II)
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing high-quality drinking water and managing wastewater. As a Civil Engineer II, Engineer-in-Charge, the selected candidate will supervise project reviews and ensure compliance with DEP infrastructure standards while advising on performance goals.

Responsibilities
Supervise staff involved in review of projects submitted by private developers, City and State agencies, and internal stakeholders. Involved with energy compliance and climate resiliency projects
Determine the scope of project review with respect to DEP infrastructure
Review structural design
Finalize response letters to consultants
Ensure all review/approvals conform to rules, regulations, requirements, and standards
Develop and track technical guidance documents, standards, and specifications
Establish and standardize water and sewer requirements and practices
Ensure all assignments are completed in accordance with DEP rules, regulations and requirements
Ensure all reviews and approvals will not have an adverse impact on the City’s water, sewer and drainage system
Coordinate and communicate with other units within DEP to incorporate infrastructure requirements
Advise managers on all matters involving section personnel and performance and identify obstacles toward achieving performance goals
Recommend course of action toward elimination of obstacles hindering overall performance
Qualification
Required
Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work
A valid New York State Professional Engineer's License
Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment
At least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project
Preferred
A valid New York State driver's license is required
Strong oral and written communication
Research capabilities
Experience using advanced functions of Microsoft Office
Experience using advanced functions of AutoCAD, GIS
Ability to prioritize project review for a high volume of complex engineering projects with a high attention to detail
Ability to learn quickly a new scope of review to adapt to a wide variety of projects
Ability to work with moderate supervision
Willingness to improve existing systems and processes where the existing structure may be deficient
