Senior Publicist
Skyhorse Publishing is an independent publishing company known for producing a high volume of diverse, timely, and impactful books. They are seeking an experienced Senior Publicist to lead a fast-paced publicity department, manage a team, and handle high-profile titles and campaigns.
Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and manage a publicity team, including a Publicist and Publicity Assistant
Delegate workloads effectively to support a high volume of seasonal releases
Provide coaching, feedback, and performance management in alignment with company goals
Establish and maintain clear workflows, processes, and best practices for the publicity department
Develop and execute comprehensive publicity campaigns for a large number of titles per season
Manage high-profile and priority titles directly, as needed
Oversee campaign timelines, deliverables, and deadlines to ensure consistent execution
Track results and adjust strategies to maximize media exposure and impact
Partner closely with editors to align publicity strategies with editorial vision and publishing schedules
Serve as a key point of contact for authors, providing guidance and managing expectations throughout the publicity process
Coordinate across departments to ensure accurate messaging and timely information flow
Maintain and expand a strong, relevant media contact list across print, digital, broadcast, podcast, and online outlets
Pitch titles effectively and secure coverage, interviews, reviews, and features
Stay current on media trends and opportunities relevant to Skyhorse’s publishing categories
Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a high-output environment
Create, refine, and document publicity processes to improve efficiency and consistency
Ensure all campaigns comply with internal standards and external requirements
Qualification
Required
Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in book publicity or a closely related field
Demonstrated experience managing or supervising a team
Proven ability to handle a high volume of titles and deadlines simultaneously
Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills
Established media contacts relevant to book publishing
Ability to collaborate effectively with editors, authors, and cross-functional teams
Willingness to work onsite in NYC office
Preferred
10 or more years of experience in book publicity
Experience working in a high-output or seasonal publishing environment
Background in developing scalable publicity processes and workflows
