Associate Manager, School Programs

The New York Public Library (NYPL) is seeking an Associate Manager for School Programs to support its mission of inspiring lifelong learning and advancing knowledge. This role involves designing and facilitating K-12 programs related to the library's research collections and exhibitions, as well as providing coaching and training for Exhibitions Educators.

Libraries

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and launch new K-12 school programs, including researching collections, drafting lesson plans, and creating promotional marketing copy
Meet with research colleagues and research with collections to draft new lesson plans
Facilitating school field trip programs 2-4 times a week
Assess school programs across museums and libraries to understand local, national, and international trends and propose strategies and programs aligned with best practices in the field
Conduct ongoing training, coaching, observation, and performance feedback for Exhibitions Educators to ensure program quality and adherence to best practices
Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Research, Exhibitions, Visitor Experience, and Branch Programs and Services
Adhere to the Center’s intellectual integrity, utilizing best practices for teaching with primary sources and exhibitions, and ensuring historical accuracy and cultural competence in all programs developed and facilitated
Support the Center’s campaign and initiative work, including outreach efforts representing the Library at external events, such as tabling
Perform other related duties as assigned

Required

Master's Degree in Education, Museum Education or Studies, History, or a related field required
3+ years of experience teaching with primary sources, artifacts, archival collections, and/or exhibitions in schools, museums or libraries working with K-12 students
2+ years of experience writing K-12 lesson plans and training staff or educators how to teach with objects or primary sources
Best practice knowledge of teaching with primary sources, artifacts and research collections in an informal learning environment
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, for varied audiences, including public speaking, facilitating group discussion, classroom management, listening skills, and professional correspondence
Strong project management skills including documentation and creating templates, organizational and time management, with high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects at varied stages simultaneously
Adaptability to change and improvise plans, including priorities, needs, or scope of projects
Knowledge and understanding of NYC public schools, classroom teacher needs and expectations, and culturally responsive teaching
