Responsibilities

Develop and execute a comprehensive people strategy that supports the company's growth objectives, operational excellence, and competitive positioning in the commercial retail REIT sector
Serve as a strategic business partner to the C-suite and business leaders, providing insights and recommendations on organizational design, talent management, and workforce planning
Oversee the creation of the talent strategy for property management teams, leasing professionals, asset managers, and corporate functions
Drive cultural transformation initiatives that reinforce Tanger’s values and support our evolution as a leading retail REIT
Oversee enterprise-wide talent acquisition strategy, ensuring Tanger attracts and retains top-tier professionals in a competitive market
Guide the design and implementation of succession planning processes for critical roles across all functions
Foster partnerships with business leaders to identify high-potential talent and create development pathways for future leaders
Build a data-driven foundation for talent strategy by establishing clear, actionable metrics. Use insights to guide critical decisions—from workforce planning to leadership development—ensuring alignment with business outcomes
Lead the design and administration of competitive compensation programs, including base salary structures, incentive plans, and equity compensation aligned with REIT best practices
Work collaboratively with executive compensation advisory group and comp committee to lead, develop, and execute competitive and comprehensive executive comp strategy to ensure attract and retain top executive talent
Ensure total rewards strategies attract and retain talent while maintaining fiscal discipline and alignment with shareholder interests
Oversee benefits programs that support diverse workforce needs across multiple geographic locations
Maintain expertise in real estate industry, compensation trends and REIT-specific considerations
Champion initiatives that strengthen our culture of collaboration, innovation, and performance excellence
Oversee the design and implementation of leadership development programs that build capability across all levels of the organization
Foster an inclusive workplace that values diversity and creates opportunities for all employees to thrive
Guide change management efforts related to acquisitions, organizational restructuring, or strategic pivots
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
Oversee employee relations matters, partnering with legal counsel when appropriate
Oversee the development and maintenance of HR policies and procedures that reflect best practices and regulatory requirements
Manage risk mitigation strategies related to employment practices
Oversees a department of fewer than 10 team members. Directly supervises 3-4 subordinates
Lead and mentor a high-performing P&C team of professionals across talent acquisition, compensation & benefits, operations, technology, and organizational development functions
Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within P&C
Provide coaching and development opportunities to grow P&C team capabilities and prepare future HR leaders
Drive digital transformation across P&C by modernizing systems and streamlining processes, while leveraging AI and automation to boost efficiency and elevate the employee experience
Establish HR analytics capabilities to provide data-driven insights for decision-making
Manage the HR budget and optimize resource allocation

Required

BS or BA degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Organizational Development, or similar area of study
15+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with at least 7 years in a senior executive role
Proven experience in commercial real estate, REITs, or related property sectors strongly preferred
Deep expertise in executive compensation, particularly equity compensation and REIT-specific structures
Track record of developing and executing people strategies in complex, multi-site organizations
Strong business acumen with ability to translate business strategy into talent initiatives
Experience advising boards and C-suite executives on human capital matters

Preferred

Advanced degree (MBA, MA in HR/OD)
Senior level Professional certification (SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or equivalent)
Experience navigating M&A integration and organizational change in real estate or REIT context
Knowledge of retail real estate trends and their implications for workforce planning
Demonstrated success building HR functions in high-growth or transformation environments
