Responsibilities

Design, configure, implement, and support enterprise-grade Cisco wireless LAN solutions, with primary responsibility for Catalyst 9800-40 Wireless LAN Controllers
Maintain and optimize wireless configurations to ensure high availability, performance, and resilience across indoor and outdoor park district environments
Perform firmware upgrades, configuration changes, and lifecycle management in accordance with change management and government IT standards
Plan and validate access point placement for administrative buildings, recreational facilities, outdoor spaces, and public venues
Conduct predictive, passive, and active wireless site surveys to ensure coverage, capacity, and user experience requirements are met
Address RF challenges common to public spaces, including outdoor interference, seasonal changes, and high-density visitor usage
Implement and administer Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) to support secure network access for staff, contractors, guests, and devices
Configure and maintain 802.1X authentication, guest access portals, device profiling, and role-based access controls
Ensure wireless security practices align with Park District policies, government security frameworks, and applicable regulatory requirements
Monitor wireless network health and performance using Cisco and approved third-party tools
Troubleshoot and resolve complex wireless connectivity issues affecting staff operations or public services
Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including network diagrams, configuration records, and standard operating procedures, in support of public-sector transparency and continuity

Required

Demonstrated experience designing and supporting Cisco enterprise wireless networks, with hands-on experience using Catalyst 9800 Wireless LAN Controllers
Experience deploying and supporting Cisco access points in complex environments, including outdoors
Practical experience with Cisco ISE, including authentication, guest access, and policy enforcement
Strong understanding of wireless networking principles, RF design, and security best practices
Ability to work effectively within a government or public-sector IT environment, following formal processes and standards

Preferred

Cisco certifications such as CCNP Enterprise, CCNP Wireless, or equivalent professional experience
Familiarity with wireless survey and RF analysis tools (e.g., Ekahau, AirMagnet)
