Electrical Engineer, Utility-Scale Solar
Peak Demand is a leading executive search firm focused on solar, renewable energy, and energy storage. They are seeking an Electrical Engineer, Utility-Scale Solar to lead electrical design and engineering efforts for solar PV projects, producing design packages and optimizing system layouts while collaborating with various teams and ensuring compliance with codes and safety requirements.
Responsibilities
Design and engineer DC electrical systems for solar projects ranging from ~1 MW to 200+ MW
Develop electrical layouts, wire sizing, trenching plans, grounding details, and one-line diagrams
Produce drawings and documentation for permitting, bidding, and construction using CAD tools
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated site designs
Interface with third-party engineers, clients, and contractors to resolve design changes and construction issues
Support electrical balance-of-system (eBOS) installation through periodic site visits
Drive value engineering efforts related to eBOS materials, components, and system configurations
Support vendor sourcing, technical evaluation, and coordination for electrical equipment and materials
Ensure designs comply with NEC and applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements
Manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong organization and attention to detail
Provide feedback on hardware, software, and workflows to improve system design and delivery
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
3+ years of experience designing utility-scale solar PV systems
Proficiency with AutoCAD and development of electrical construction documents
Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
Experience with solar design and analysis tools such as PVSyst, SAM, PVCase, or similar
Familiarity with electrical distribution system design and cost estimating
Clear communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
A proactive, ownership-driven approach and comfort working independently
Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Experience with 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks)
Field or construction support experience
Exposure to product or platform development environments
