Project Accounting Manager
Connect Search, LLC is a growing construction firm looking for a Project Accounting Manager to lead their project accounting function. This role involves overseeing job cost accounting, billing, WIP reporting, and project financial controls, while partnering with Project Managers and senior leadership to drive financial performance.
Responsibilities
Oversee job cost accounting for assigned projects, ensuring accurate tracking of labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and change orders
Review and validate project budgets, cost codes, committed costs, and forecasting updates
Partner with Project Managers to analyze cost variances, profitability, and margin trends
Ensure timely and accurate updates to project forecasts, contingency usage, and EAC (estimate-at-completion)
Prepare and review monthly WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion calculations
Support monthly close by validating job cost accruals, committed costs, unbilled revenue, and retainage
Develop accurate, timely project financial reports for management and operations
Maintain compliance with GAAP and construction-specific accounting practices
Oversee progress billings , pay applications, lien waivers, and related documentation
Coordinate with PMs to ensure billing accuracy and alignment with contract terms
Monitor collections, retainage, and aging to support strong cash flow
Resolve billing discrepancies and support customer and subcontractor inquiries
Manage and mentor a team of project accountants and AP/AR staff supporting field operations
Review and approve project accountants’ work for accuracy and completeness
Provide training to PMs and field staff on job cost processes, billing, and financial controls
Support recruitment and development of accounting team members
Drive process improvements to enhance job cost tracking, reporting, and close efficiency
Support ERP enhancements, configuration, and system adoption (Sage 300, Viewpoint/Vista, CMiC, Procore, Jonas, etc.)
Strengthen internal controls around job cost management, billing, and documentation
Promote standardization of project accounting workflows across all business units
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong construction industry exposure
Hands-on experience with job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and progress billing
Ability to interpret construction contracts, subcontract agreements, and change orders
Strong communication and partnership skills with PMs and Operations teams
Proficiency with construction accounting or ERP systems
