Senior Project Manager - Industrial

NELSON Worldwide is seeking a Senior Project Manager to join their Industrial Practice in Seattle. The role involves managing multiple projects, ensuring client satisfaction, and leading all phases of design for industrial buildings such as manufacturing and logistics facilities.

Responsibilities

Balancing the performance and process of multiple projects of varying size and scope
Advance the opportunities for continued growth in market share and profitability in specific service lines
Execute and lead all phases of design which include feasibility studies, planning, concept development, detailed design, construction documentation and specifications
Lead a project and design effort from concept design through start-up
Participates in preparing marketing materials, site test fits, proposals and participates in sales presentations
Participates in and coordinates the team’s production of plans, specifications and contract documents
Manages all client communications and client expectations
Develops the project workplan, manages project timelines, budget, scope, change and risk throughout the project execution
Ability to evaluate project progress and adjust critical path for scope completion and budget adherence required
Interfaces and coordinates with local authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ’s)
Reviews, interprets and applies the Building Code in compliance with the application
Interfaces with the Construction Manager and Site Manager to resolve design coordination details and any constructability issues as well as assists with the value engineering effort
Responsible for coordinating professional service contract with clients and agreements with consultants
Coordinates with financial staff to ensure maintain billing and invoice schedule for their projects and monitors payment status
Assist with mentoring, training and coordinating work of teammate and junior staff
Embrace specific steps to create, develop and promote a diverse workforce and to promote an inclusive environment
Manage and lead the Key Project Management Functions: Opportunities, Projects, Planning and Accounting
Conduct informal meetings with project team on a regular basis and give direction as required so that the project stays on course, within budget, etc
Provide recommendations as needed for corrective actions on a regular basis
Update Team Leader on a regular basis regarding project status and notify Team Leader/Studio Director and/or Operations Director and/or Managing Director immediately if the project is off track
Develop and facilitate contracts between NELSON, Client and outside consultants for services with the approval from the Studio Director and/or Managing Director
Manage the project contract performance and process understanding the scope, budget, and quality agreed to by the Client
Execute the contract in alignment with approved work plans, schedules and budgets to attain profitability targets to manage and monitor the project life cycle and financial outcome of the project
Communicate with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provides support as necessary
Ensure project documentation and contracts are compliant with NELSON standards
Ensure that design reviews occur at the designated stages of projects
Monitor and, when appropriate, manage communication between the project team and client, consultants, contractors and vendors to communicate design requirements or coordinate design documents
Contribute to and offer professional opinion to the office Leadership Team of the firm regarding current projects, staff, client relationships, etc
Complete timesheet daily, confirming accuracy prior to submission
Complete expense reports timely, confirming accuracy prior to submission
Participate as requested in meetings with the office leadership team to share ideas regarding existing and overall organization, business development opportunities, position in the marketplace, etc
Support the office leadership team with firm wide initiatives
Take on special projects as directed by the office leadership team
Conduct initial review of drawings, documents and proposals prior to other reviews ensuring accuracy and completeness
Review all plans and other production tasks for accuracy prior to submission to Team Leader, Studio Director, or Technical Director
Establish a process and ensure all projects receive QA/QC review by assigned Technical Director, Design Director, Architect, etc
Guide teammates in utilizing all NELSON resources within their office, with in the team/account, and across the network to deliver quality technical and/or creative design
Maintain and archive electronic project files
Initiate and maintain contracts with other key project individuals for clarification, coordination and negotiation of critical issues
Initiate project set up and input information in to Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint
Manage project using the Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint; complete work plans; including identification of Teammate assignments to skill sets, schedule for completion, project budget, consultants, fees and labor costs as well as project change notices or other actions taking place on the assigned project
Prepare invoices with accuracy for review with your assigned Project Analyst
Function as the primary Client contact through all phases of the project
Maintain positive client relationships throughout project
Keep Client apprised of project progress on regular basis
Assist Client in obtaining bids and awarding construction contracts if required
Foster relationships with Clients, Vendors, Brokers, Consultants etc. and engage with them on a personal level as well as work to gain their confidence
Participate in marketing and business development opportunities as requested
Develop work plans, fee proposals and project schedules in response to RFP’s and other opportunities
Nurture professional relationships with Clients on an ongoing basis to assist with business development for the firm
Support business development initiatives set forth by the office leadership team
Develop a personal business development action plan with Team Lead, Studio Director and or Managing Director
Make recommendations to office leadership regarding quantity, complexity, and diversity of future projects they feel are necessary for consideration

Required

Minimum 7+ years of relevant project management and architectural experience executing industrial & manufacturing all phases of projects including schematic design, design development, QA/QC reviews and permitting assistance, construction documents, contract documents and construction administration services
Experience designing warehouse, distribution facilities and e-commerce facilities is a high priority
Experience designing manufacturing and fabrication facilities, coordinating tooling and equipment lines is highly desirable. Coordination cranes, lifts and material handling equipment
Experience with site-cast tilt up construction and pre-engineered building systems is desirable
Exposure to and a working knowledge of a broad range of engineering disciplines including civil/site work, structural, architectural, mechanical systems (refrigeration, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, hot water, domestic water, compressed air, plumbing and HVAC), and electrical power distribution
Plant engineering experience is a plus
Execution of projects within an A/E/C design firm
Developed specifications, interfaced with and coordinated multidisciplinary teams, both on-site and remotely, particularly in private industry
Facility, utility design projects for manufacturing and distribution clients
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for formal presentations, maintaining client relationships and interacting with our valued team members
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project
Must have AutoCAd, Revit, Bluebeam and specification writing programs (Masterspec, BSD SpecLink)
Experience with Newforma and Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint desirable
