F&W-2026-4 Principal Biologist - Fisheries (INTERNAL POSTING)
The NJ Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a Principal Biologist in Fisheries to supervise and coordinate statewide surveys of streams and lakes, as well as fish population management. The role involves developing and implementing programs to engage saltwater recreational anglers and incorporates data into management decisions.

Responsibilities
Supervises and coordinates on a state-wide basis surveys of streams and lakes, samplings of fish populations and fish foods, and disease treatment
Generally supervises fish cultural operations and other technical biological work within the fisheries management programs of the state
Supervises staff and work activities
Prepares and signs official performance evaluations for subordinate staff
Does other related duties as required
Develop, implement, and supervise programs intended to engage saltwater recreational anglers through means such as opinion surveys, citizen science, and educational programs
Incorporate data and stakeholder input into the management process and use it to inform management decisions
Qualification
Required
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in one of the Biological Sciences, Natural Resource Management, or Environmental Science with a major concentration in Fisheries Science and/or Wildlife Science
Three (3) years of experience in fisheries biology, fisheries management, fisheries husbandry, fisheries research, and/or the development of fisheries management programs
A Master's degree in Fisheries Management or a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of experience
All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university
All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position
Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship, and Immigration Services regulations
