Art Director
Basic Research is seeking an Art Director to visually bring brand and product stories to life across all channels. This role involves leading the internal design team, managing external agencies, and ensuring high creative standards while collaborating with various departments.

Responsibilities
Own visual execution across brand and product marketing initiatives
Translate inputs (story, copy, mood boards, brand direction) into clear creative direction
Ensure brand consistency and high creative standards across all touchpoints
Evolve brand systems, visual language, and design guidelines as the business grows
Lead, mentor, and manage the internal design team
Set priorities, review work, and elevate creative quality across the team
Foster a collaborative, high-performance creative culture
Manage external agencies and freelancers for design and video production/editing
Provide clear briefs, creative direction, and feedback to agencies
Ensure agency work aligns with brand standards, timelines, and budgets
Oversee UX design for:
Website and landing pages
PDPs and e-commerce experiences
Email templates and lifecycle flows
Digital and paid media ads
Partner with Digital and E-commerce teams to optimize creative for conversion and performance
Balance brand expression with usability and business goals
Lead packaging design and updates across the product catalog
Ensure packaging aligns with brand positioning, product story, and regulatory requirements
Partner with Product and Operations on feasibility and execution
Work closely with Marketing, Product, Digital, and Content teams to align creative with strategy
Participate in creative reviews, campaign planning, and launch timelines
Ensure creative is delivered on time, on brief, and on brand
Consistent, high-quality creative execution across channels
On-time delivery of design and video assets
Strong collaboration and satisfaction across Marketing, Product, and Digital teams
Improved performance of digital creative (engagement, CTR, conversion support)
Clear, scalable brand systems that support growth
Qualification
Required
8+ years of experience in design, with time spent as an Art Director or Senior Designer
Proven experience managing internal design teams and external agencies
Strong portfolio demonstrating brand, digital, UX, and packaging work
Experience with: Website and UX design, Email and lifecycle marketing design, Digital and paid media creative, Packaging and physical products
Working knowledge of video production and editing workflows (hands-on editing not required)
Strong communication, presentation, and feedback skills
Preferred
Experience in CPG, wellness, beauty, or lifestyle brands preferred
