Survey Instrument Technician
Shield Engineering is seeking a Survey Instrument Technician to assist in the collection of survey data and maintenance of survey instrumentation. The role involves working outdoors, gathering field survey data, and operating various surveying equipment under the guidance of a Party Chief.

Responsibilities
Gathers field survey data through use of conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods
Sets up, adjusts, and operates surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment
Measure distances, elevations, and angles; prepares field notes and drawings
Performs field surveying for roadway, bridges, and flood control projects, including installing surveying construction stakes, tying out existing intersection ties and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right of way, monuments corners, boundaries, and property lines
Responsible for assigned surveying activities, including holding the prism pole for measurements
Responsible for clearing the route of the survey
Responsible for crew survey supplies
Learn operation and care of various surveying instruments
Learn basic principles of field surveying
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED
Assists in the collection of survey data and the maintenance of the survey instrumentation
Works with the Party Chief to execute the survey work
May require work outside of normal business hours
This is an outdoor job, which requires a good deal of walking in many weather conditions
