Director of Engineering
Confidential is a growing engineered products manufacturer seeking a hands-on Director of Engineering to lead product design, new product introduction, and engineering execution. The role involves serving as a technical authority, contributing to system architecture, and leading a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality product outcomes.
Responsibilities
Serve as the technical authority across engineering disciplines
Personally contribute to system architecture, design decisions, and problem-solving
Lead and participate in design reviews, trade studies, and root-cause analysis
Step into detailed design work when needed to move programs forward
Lead development and integration of motors, motor controllers, and embedded electronics
Guide PCB/PCA design, validation, and system integration
Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and compliance requirements
Work effectively with internal teams and external development partners
Own the NPI process from concept through production release
Drive rapid prototyping, iterative testing, and accelerated development cycles
Balance speed and rigor to deliver predictable, high-quality outcomes
Ensure products are designed for manufacturability, testability, serviceability, and scalability
Partner closely with Manufacturing during prototype builds, pilot runs, and production ramp
Own engineering documentation including EBOMs and technical data packages
Resolve design-related production issues quickly and effectively
Lead and mentor a small, multidisciplinary engineering team
Set expectations for technical rigor, accountability, and execution
Build an engineering culture focused on ownership, clarity, and results
Qualification
Required
Significant experience as a hands-on design engineer in a manufacturing environment
Experience with electromechanical systems, motors, motor controllers, and embedded electronics
Working knowledge of PCB/PCA design and electronic system integration
Proven experience leading new product development from concept through production
Strong understanding of manufacturing integration, configuration management, and documentation
Comfortable operating in lean, fast-moving organizations without layers of bureaucracy
Clear communicator with strong technical judgment
Preferred
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering strongly preferred)
