They are seeking a Senior Technical Advisor specializing in Nuclear Safety to provide advanced technical expertise, evaluate and oversee Nuclear Explosive Safety assessment processes, and ensure compliance with safety protocols.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and provide recommendations to enhance the NES assessment process
Ensure compliance with established protocols for nuclear explosive safety
Participate in NES evaluations and studies, offering expertise in areas such as tooling design, explosive safety, environmental safety, and nuclear weapons assembly/disassembly
Provide written reports detailing findings, recommendations, and opportunities for improvement
Contribute to lines of inquiry and prepare technical input for NES studies
Engage with stakeholders, including NA-12, CDNS, and the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB), to discuss safety initiatives and improvements
Support periodic and ad-hoc NES-related meetings and conference calls
Travel to NNSA headquarters, national laboratories, and operational sites for evaluations
Review detailed, often classified, input documents to prepare for NES evaluations
Maintain necessary security clearances and access levels for classified work

Required

Bachelor's degree required in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or Physics with a focus on nuclear studies, Materials Science, or Chemistry Experience
15+ years of senior-level experience in safety evaluations, high-consequence operations, or peer reviews
Active DOE “Q” level Security Clearance and Sigma 15 access (or ability to obtain)
Frequent travel to various NNSA sites and facilities
Participation in periodic NES-related meetings and conference calls
Regular interaction with classified systems and materials
Adherence to timelines and protocols as outlined by NNSA SD 452.2B

Preferred

Master's degree preferred
A valid driver's license may be required for travel
