Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc. is an electric utility offering a Cyber Security Intern opportunity for 2026. This summer position provides students with hands-on experience in various aspects of the Cyber Security department, including investigating phishing emails and supporting the vulnerability management program.

Responsibilities

Investigating and remediating reported phishing emails

Assist in tracking, documenting, and responding to security incidents, from containment to recovery

Support the vulnerability management program

Supporting security awareness and training programs

Research emerging threats

Enhancement of Simulated Phishing Campaigns: Transition from quarterly to monthly phishing campaigns, complemented by targeted remediation training

Systematically document phishing metrics to assess and guide program advancements

Strengthen Cybersecurity Visibility: Conduct a comprehensive review and consolidation of multiple incident response plans across the organization to improve visibility and enhance cross-departmental coordination

Required

Successfully completed two (2) to three (3) years of undergraduate study towards a Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a similar technical degree from an accredited college or university

Familiarity with security tools and frameworks (firewall, SIEM, endpoint protection, security training, NIST, CIS, etc.)

General knowledge of networking and operating systems (TCP/IP, Linux, Windows, Routing, ACLs, etc.)

Analytical and problem-solving skills

Highly motivated self-starter who has a willingness to learn

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred

Preference will be given to students who attend accredited colleges and universities in Tri-State's service territory which includes Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and New Mexico
