Control Engineer
LotusLynx is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead the design, development, testing, and commissioning of complex automated sortation and material handling systems. This role involves both hands-on technical execution and leadership responsibilities, including mentoring junior engineers and providing technical guidance across projects.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and implement modular, reusable PLC code for new and existing automation projects
Program and configure HMIs using platforms such as Ignition, FactoryTalk View, FactoryTalk Optix, Wonderware, or similar tools
Implement PLC and HMI solutions that meet approved designs, functional requirements, and customer specifications
Diagnose and resolve controls-related issues involving I/O, controllers, VFDs, communication devices, and field hardware
Commission and troubleshoot complex automated systems independently or as part of a project team
Provide on-site engineering support, including system startup, testing, and final system acceptance
Review electrical designs and produce accurate as-built documentation
Collaborate with internal engineering teams, project managers, customers, and third-party vendors throughout design and execution phases
Support and guide commissioning team members as needed
Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior-level controls engineers
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
4–7 years of experience in an industrial controls or automation environment
Hands-on PLC programming experience, with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley required (Siemens, Schneider, or other platforms a plus)
HMI development experience using FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Wonderware, Indusoft, or similar platforms
Experience troubleshooting and supporting control system I/O and field devices
Working knowledge of industrial communication networks such as EtherNet/IP, Profinet, and Modbus
Understanding of low-voltage electrical design and ability to interpret and create electrical drawings
Experience working with VFDs; networked VFD experience is a plus
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and standard office tools
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills within industrial automation systems
Solid understanding of PLCs, VFDs, motors, and industrial control networks
Ability to manage and execute system implementations, enhancements, and retrofits
Demonstrated understanding of basic project management and service delivery principles
Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and results-driven mindset
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
Proven ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to junior engineers
