Lead Materials Engineer
GE Aerospace is seeking a Lead Materials Engineer in Muskegon, Michigan, to support process development and component production in coatings for gas turbine components. The role involves technical support, process optimization, and leading project teams to enhance business metrics using Lean methodologies.

Responsibilities
Assist in leading and is accountable for new product development activities within specified product line(s)
Maintain the status of all development activities and appropriately communicates with internal and external customers
Conduct process trials and validation runs, collecting and analyzing data to ensure processes are optimized
Apply CI tools and concepts on product/process subsystems or manufacturing systems
Optimize the production processes using a robust lean problem-solving methodology, with quantifiable impact to business metrics
Develop KPIs to effectively manage process and product outcomes
Utilize project management skills to lead assigned projects/programs to successful completion considering technical, budgetary, manpower and schedule requirements
Collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment to develop component designs and repairs, which meet site and customer requirements for cost, performance, and durability
Assist in making technical decisions on product/process design and provide definition to the team to ensure mutual success
Own technical aspects of assigned components and/or processes from initial concept through all manufacturing stages
Identify, develop, and implement tooling/equipment improvements
Troubleshoot process/production problems and implement actions/solutions, monitor sustainability of actions, and report out results
Ensure a thorough and effective transition of new products and processes into production
Prepare and deliver presentations of work to all levels of external and internal customers
Train less experienced technical staff and production operators
Work in laboratory and shop floor environments
Coordinate development of process planning, incorporating customer requirements and coordinating reviews with GE quality and production personnel
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of manufacturing experience)
At least an additional 3 years of manufacturing experience
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science, Ceramic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry
Experience in Process Engineering
Experience in Project Management
Advanced knowledge of superalloys
Working knowledge of diffusion coatings
Experience in thermal barrier coatings
Experience in manufacturing of hot section aero-engine components
Six Sigma Green Belt
Working knowledge of robotics programming
Experience in Minitab or similar statistical software
Exposure and participation in NADCAP audits for Diffusion and/or Overlay coatings
