Resource Specialist

The N.C. Department of Adult Correction is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through various services. The Resource Specialist position involves marketing and recruiting business partners to provide employment opportunities for ex-offenders, while maintaining a database of job skill requirements and availability.

Responsibilities

Create a list by specific trades and region within the state of employer contacts and of employers who are willing to interview and hire ex-offenders
Promote the interviewing and hiring of individual skilled offenders who are preparing for release
Coordinate with ESC former Offender Employment Specialists and Job Link job developers to provide a system for referral of re-entering offenders into target populations, and for developing a method of collecting data on referral encounters and job interviews obtained
Create a list of offenders who have been trained for at least 6 months through Correction Enterprises programs and create an effective method for connecting the offender and potential employers
Operate a state vehicle and engage in occasional overnight travel

Required

Bachelor's degree from appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience

Preferred

Must demonstrate experience speaking and presenting information to a large audience and responding to impromptu questions
Must demonstrate prior experience with employment placement
Must demonstrate and document previous experience utilizing various Microsoft Office programs
Must demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving techniques
Must demonstrate prior experience developing and teaching curriculums in a classroom setting to adults
Prefer applicants with experience working with current or former offenders, inmate programs, and inmate assignments
