Responsibilities

Apply various background knowledge to the scientific research principles, protocols, and experimental designs to perform the research projects
Collaborate with other lab members on experimental designs, analysis, applications, and presentation of the results; teach and advise other junior lab members on techniques and scientific backgrounds
Interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate scientific research assignments if there is any controversial issues and problems
Develop and approach the model concepts as an individual researcher, being independent of technical matters
Provide technical leadership and consultation to professional co-workers, collaborators, and graduate students
Prepare data analyses, reports, and other documentation for publications and present findings at local, national, and/or international meetings; and prepare grant proposals to obtain funding in support of research activities
Maintain currency of knowledge in respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems
Perform molecular, biochemical, and histological studies such as fluorescence immunohistochemistry to detect various proteins, western blot, and real-time PCR
Generate DNA constructs for gene transfer and transgenic/knockout/knock-in mouse lines
Analyze experimental results, review literature, and write manuscripts
Develop research career development grants; and perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Required

A Ph.D. in biomedical Science or an M.D. degree is required
Comprehensive knowledge of research methods and procedures to perform the research project
Ability to generate new ideas and methods and to conduct laboratory testing and analysis in a timely manner
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to safely handle biohazardous materials and confidential data
Capability to interact effectively with laboratory and other department personnel
Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to professional personnel in the area of expertise
Knowledge of research methodology, principles

Preferred

Research Associate independently interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates research assignments under minimal supervision
The project focuses on the roles of neuroinflammation and oxidative stress in neurotoxicity induced by neurotoxins such as manganese and the molecular/cellular mechanisms involved, as well as gene-environment interaction, focusing on LRRK2-Mn interaction
The experiments will involve genetic mouse models and brain surgery, as well as in vitro cell lines and primary cell cultures
He/she will need to explore subject areas relevant to the main projects and train the junior lab members whenever necessary
