Financial Controller

Responsibilities

Oversee and manage all general ledger activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close
Ensure accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and cash management
Review and maintain balance sheet integrity, including reconciliations and supporting schedules
Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations, grant requirements, and donor restrictions
Oversee preparation for annual audits and act as primary liaison with external auditors
Support grant and fund accounting, including tracking, reporting, and reconciliation of restricted funds
Assist with Form 990 preparation and year-end reporting
Serve as subject matter expert for Microsoft Great Plains (Dynamics GP)
Maintain chart of accounts, system controls, and financial reporting structures
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and efficiency
Supervise and mentor accounting staff; provide guidance and performance feedback
Partner with the CFO/Executive Director and leadership team to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial decision-making
Provide clear financial insights to non-financial stakeholders

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5+ years of accounting experience, with significant nonprofit experience
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Great Plains (Dynamics GP)
Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
Experience with month-end close, audits, and financial reporting

Preferred

CPA or MBA
Experience with grant-funded or multi-program nonprofit organizations
Prior supervisory or management experience
