Paralegal

Richmond County School System is looking for a Paralegal to support the Policy and Legal Compliance Department. The role involves performing paralegal services, assisting with legal research, and providing administrative support to the Chief Compliance Officer and Title IX Coordinator.

Responsibilities

Assist with organizing and managing requests for records, including litigation, Georgia Open Records Act requests, and subpoenas. Coordinates and prepares responses, maintains tracking systems, reviews records for exemptions, and applies redactions. Researches and responds to questions about subpoenas and court orders, including custody orders
Provide administrative support, including scheduling meetings, maintaining confidential files, preparing reports, drafting, and editing documents, and compiling data
Intake and research legal questions; refer to appropriate departments; respond to inquiries via phone and email; provide technical information on department operations and Board policies; consult with Chief Compliance Officer on complex issues
Proofread and edit legal documents for accuracy, format, and content under supervision of Chief Compliance Officer
Prepare drafts and final versions of Board policies, procedures, guidelines, and handbooks for distribution to supervisor, website, schools/departments
Track and maintain files for grievances, complaints, and litigation; schedule deadlines; prepare case summaries; assist with investigations and summary reports as needed
Monitor legal developments and update Chief Legal Compliance Officer and department on relevant statues, regulations, and case law
Provide budget tracking and analysis for legal costs
Assist with special projects and initiatives, including preparing training materials, coordinating workshops, and attending sessions as requested
Maintain confidentiality and comply with all legal requirements regarding attorney-client communications and privacy laws
The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee’s supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law board policy administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission

Required

Associate's degree required
Legal research and technical writing skills, including the ability to prepare clear and accurate summaries
Ability to learn and apply public education law, district policies, and state and federal regulations
Effectively organizing confidential records and managing multiple projects
Analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities
Time management and attention to detail
Ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity, professionalism
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Proficiency in administrative and clerical procedures, including word processing, records management, and presentation tools
Ability to coordinate meetings, proceedings, and trainings
Promote and follow Board of Education policies and procedures
Experience in legal issues

Preferred

Bachelor's degree preferred
Coursework in paralegal studies or pre-law from an accredited college or university is desirable
Paralegal certificate desirable
Three or more years in a law firm or government law office highly preferred
Other relevant education, training, or experience may be considered
