DOMESTIC ABUSE VICTIM ADVOCATE

Responsibilities

Serves as Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate providing direct support to victims of domestic abuse, child abuse and those impacted by PSB-CY
Responsible for case management activities occurring from initial referral, follow up through case closure, or transfer
Provides advisory services and annual training to senior leaders, health care professional, installation personnel, and key community agencies
Represents the domestic abuse victim advocacy installation program to both military and civilian agencies

Selective Factors; Position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in any of the following disciplines: Social Work; Psychology; Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling; Counseling or Behavioral Science; Criminal Justice or related field, and minimum 2-yrs experience in assisting and providing advocacy services to victims of domestic abuse or sexual assault
Must possess and maintain National Advocate Credentialing Program certification per DODI 6400.06
Must possess and maintain current certification in Basic Life Support
The incumbent will be on call and may be required to work overtime, weekends, holidays, or varying shifts in order to accomplish mission requirements
This position has been identified as having 'regular contact with children' IAW Public Law 101-647 Section 231, and Public Law 102-190, Section 1094
An FBI fingerprint and State Criminal History Repository Check will be completed on any person selected for this position
The duties of this position require the employee to operate a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license will be required for the position
Additionally, due to the driving requirement, this position will be designated as a drug testing position IAW AFMAN 44-198, Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program
This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing
Recruitment is limited to Department of War employees
Bachelor's degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems
Examples of specialized experience include: The ability to provide support to victims of domestic abuse, child abuse, and those impacted by PSB-CY
Diverse knowledge of domestic abuse victim advocacy, social services delivery systems, as well as behavioral theories relating to victim advocacy, domestic violence including family and partner abuse, child maltreatment and other acts of interpersonal violence
Comprehensive knowledge of the organization, management, and administration of child and family welfare services to participate in program planning and in the development and maintenance of public understanding and sound working relationships with local agencies and community agencies
Ph. D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%
Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level
Extensive knowledge of domestic abuse victim advocacy and PSB-CY practices, principles, and theories to effectively provide victim support involving a wide range of psychosocial and environmental problems
Comprehensive knowledge of the organization, management, and the administration of child and family welfare services to participate in program planning and in the development and maintenance of public understanding and sound working relationships with local agencies and community agencies
Working knowledge of a wide array of problems and issues of those impacted by family maltreatment and PSB-CY for appropriate referral
Skill and ability to directly apply professional tools and techniques in support of domestic abuse victims
Ability to evaluate and determine best application of multiple complex helping systems, various professions, and organizations; how the affect child and family welfare; and the multiple uses of such systems, professions, and organizations to deliver services
Ability to assess, intervene, and provide crisis intervention, safety planning and support to at-risk clients
