Criminal Intelligence Analyst (P1)

The City of Kalamazoo is seeking a Criminal Intelligence Analyst to join the Criminal Investigation Division. The Analyst will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data related to criminal activity to provide actionable insights to Detectives and Investigators.

Responsibilities

Provide investigative case support to Investigators and Detectives by utilizing access to various database systems and analyzing the results of queries within those systems
Receive requests for service as assigned by supervisors or direct requests from known law enforcement liaisons
Evaluate all assigned requests for criminal nexus and determine resources required to fulfill the request
Access and query available data systems to develop information related to suspect criminal activity and background
Research similar incidents for possible links to additional criminal investigations and cross reference known information for additional case comparison
Complete other tasks as assigned by command personnel
Utilize specialty software to analyze investigative case information and create products necessary for organization and information relevance and/or information flow
Attend specialized training for cell phone mapping, charting, and context analysis. Stay current with changes in phone technology and service providers
Receive and maintain data files for phone extractions and phone toll records as a result of legal compliance
Import phone records and create cases specific to requests
Analyze phone data and determine relevancy to investigation or possible links to other criminal investigations
Create charts in specialized analytical software to display timeline of events or show relational links between suspects, victims, and other parties
Create clear and concise maps to show patterns of travel or known locations based on evidence
Create reports that depict large amounts of information to allow investigators and prosecutors to easily comprehend the data sets

Required

Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major
Demonstrate good organizational skills, apply prioritization techniques, and demonstrate flexibility and ability to multitask
Possess strong research and critical thinking skills
Experience at communicating complex information and material in an easily understood format through the use of visual charts, timelines, and larger data stories
Demonstrate proficient use of databases and intelligence tools
Ability to build effective working relationships to attain goals and work collaboratively and productively as a team member
Possess a strong attention to detail and the ability to learn new skills quickly
Write and communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively
Ability to work with sensitive or restricted information with integrity and confidentiality
Work independently as needed
Flexible to work non-traditional hours and weekends as needed for critical cases and team support
